So, time to put names to faces. Supporting Amar (OK so he’s lost without her) is Sarah. She is a fully qualified Dispensing Opticians with a passion for cool well fitting spectacles. She will be on hand to help you choose from the optical cornucopia that awaits you.
Struggling to chose from a cool and contemporary frame or something out-and-out edgy? they can advise you and point you in the right direction. They’re great at understanding what will work for you and what won’t and are refreshingly honest. So if you need help you only need to ask.
Not much escapes Amar’s eagle eyes. A qualified Optometrist, it’s Amar you’ll see if you need your eyes examining. And with 30 years’ experience under his belt, he knows his stuff. Over the year he’s honed his skills and developed his interest in eye care ophthalmology, contact lenses, refractive surgery and sports vision. Committed to on-going education, he has passed exams with Bristol PCT to be accredited to check for Glaucoma and Raised IOP. He has also lectured to colleagues locally and nationally. His working life includes 11 years spent at Brian Vousden Opticians, where he became a partner, before deciding to leave and travel the world. On returning to sunny England in 2005, Amar decided to set up his own practice, providing stylish frames and great service in a warm, contemporary setting.
We stock lesser known, more quirky brands to offer something that little bit more individual. Since opening we’ve become the go-to destination for interesting eyewear in the South West.
A key opinion leader for Bausch+Lomb and Johnson & Johnson, two of the largest contact lens companies in the world, Amar has carried out clinical trials for several new contact lens products before they come to market. Being involved in the early development of products allows him to keep his patients informed of imminent developments – sometimes getting them before they’re launched countrywide. Amar has been involved in testing with the British Olympic Team, the England Rugby and Cricket Teams and his beloved Arsenal. He is also official Optometrist to Gloucestershire and Somerset County Cricket Clubs.
Sarah qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1999 and has worked with Amar for many years. She has been at the practice since it opened in 2005, and commutes from Radstock where she lives. Sarah has now increased her working days to 5 days a week as her son has started at secondary school. Outside of work Sarah enjoys socialising, cooking, going to festivals and spending time with her husband Rik and family.
If Amar is too busy playing golf or watching cricket, you may see fellow qualified optometrist Kim Curthoys who has been working with Amar since January 2015. Graduating from Aston University in 2004, she started her career with a family-run, independent practice in the North-East, during which time she also worked in the low vision and contact lens clinics at the local hospital. Five years later Kim and her future husband moved to Jersey where they enjoyed the beautiful beaches and sunny climes. Another five years later after getting married and going on a six-month honeymoon around the world they decided to leave island life behind them and move back to the South-West to be closer to family. After upsetting her boss with the news she was leaving Jersey, he mentioned that his old university housemate had a very stylish optometry practice in Bristol, and kindly put in a good word for her during a round of golf and a couple of beers. The rest as they say is history….. Kim really enjoys working with Amar and his fun yet professional dispensing opticians. His latest vision equipment is very exciting for Kim, and she loves all the quirky, high quality and unique frames Amar offers. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking as well as visiting as many countries as possible to add to the fifteen just from her honeymoon.
